To initiate the story questline, you must either:
- Tune your radio to intercept a distress signal at the Level 3 Intelligence Center in your Hideout, or
- Locate a poster mentioning Paradigm Shipping, a company affiliated with TerraGroup.

Posters are scattered across the entire map of Tarkov, including:
- Administrative building on the Factory location
- Three-story dormitory on the Customs location
- Sanatorium guest rooms on the Shore location
- Exterior walls of buildings on the Ground Zero location

Upon discovering a poster, a story dialogue with Mechanic becomes available, who will issue a quest to repair equipment.

Head to the Forest location, making sure to bring a Toolset. The required equipment is located under the cell tower in the northern part of the map. As a landmark, look for the nearby Wild bunker. Complete the repair and extract from the location to turn in the quest to the quest giver.

Contact Mechanic, who provides a lead on Paradigm Shipping documentation. Proceed to the western part of the Lighthouse location, heading toward the railway depot. The required folder with documents is stored on a desk inside the hangar. We study the documentation and proceed to the exit to complete the quest.

We pass all the information we found about the Borey Icebreaker to the Mechanic, and he begins to calculate the coordinates of the ship. Meanwhile, we search for a vehicle that can take us to the new location.

After reviewing the documentation at the Lighthouse location, you need to contact the Prapor to arrange transport to the Boreas icebreaker.

During the conversation, he will offer a helicopter for delivery to the ship, but the flight will require aviation oil, which can be found in the Reserve.

Next comes the variability. The objectives depend on your progress in the Sky on Fire storyline:

- Case not yet found: you must eliminate 30 targets in the Reserve, then signal with a yellow flare near the entrance to the Forest location.

- Case transfer to the Prapor refused: you must find and deliver three military filters marked found in raid to the customer.

- Case transferred to the Prapor: we immediately head to the Reserve to search for aviation oil.

Aviation oil is most often found in the helicopter located on the parade ground near the barracks, marked with black and white pawns.

After handing over the item, Prapor refuses to take us to the Icebreaker, but offers a ship evacuation service, which requires a green flare and 2 400 euros (which we'll need to take on the raid when we head to Boreas).

Next, we head to the BTR Driver. From the conversation, it becomes clear that the smuggler group has a small vessel capable of taking you to the Icebreaker.

Further variability follows. The mission conditions depend on your progress in the Price of Independence storyline:

- Supported the BTR Driver: he will negotiate with the smugglers himself. All you have to do is return to the base, then speak with the Driver again, and head to the pier.

- Didn't complete his quest chain: you'll have to personally provide a favor to the smugglers by eliminating 10 targets near their camp on the Shore or at the Interchange.

- Sided with the Skier: you must give the Driver 200 7.62×54R BT rounds and burn the Skier's folder. To do this, head to the Customs location near the library. The folder can spawn on the ground next to the containers. Once you find it, take it to the base boss's Reshala, and place it in a burning barrel.

After completing these tasks, you'll still need to assist the smugglers by clearing out targets in their camps.

After completing the necessary tasks, prepare your inventory: bring 400,000 rubles, a green flare, and 2,400 euros. These funds will be needed to organize a helicopter evacuation from the Icebreaker.

Final step: head to the Shore location, Norvinsky Sea Pier, and activate the jump point.

After arriving at the Icebreaker location, it must be carefully examined. The territory is small, but consists of many corridors and cabins.

When opening the hermodvery, there will be a clash with the fighters of the Apostates faction, led by the boss Knight. It is recommended to completely clean the area for safe movement.

We explore the first tier and discover a locked cabin where the scientist is hiding. From the conversation with him, we find out that the captain of the ship is also alive. In order for the researcher to agree to leave the Icebreaker, the captain must be found.

We are heading to the outpatient cabin where the remains lie. Next to them, we take Engineer Borey's key card.
We go down to the lower deck and use the found key card to open the cabin with a combination lock. After examining the room, we notice how a detachment of the Black Division faction, led by boss Wedge, lands on the helipad.

We are moving to the engine room, where we will fight the invaders. The Black Division is considered the most dangerous group in direct clashes, so you need to act very carefully. After dealing with them, we head to the helipad and destroy another small patrol.

We continue to clear the upper deck from the Black Division fighters. During the shootout, we discover a German door blocked by a chain. To open it, you will need an Prapor's explosives. After that, it remains to call an evacuation helicopter and leave the Icebreaker.

For a quick transition to the Icebreaker location, it is recommended to complete the quest chain of the BTR Driver from the list below.:

- He called himself gruzd...
- To save Private Roman
- A bitter victory
- A hungover morning

Upon completion, the transition will be available from the main menu of the game (you will need a currency to switch).

We turn to the Mechanic about explosives, then we turn to the Prapor. After the dialogue, the opportunity opens to purchase a charge of SZ-1.

We return to the Icebreaker and undermine the chain on the locked door. Immediately after the explosion, we engage in battle with the elite Black Division squad led by boss Wedge.

We find a gas cutter in the kitchen and go up to the upper deck. Using the tool, we open the next obstacle. You will need to enter a secret code inside. The first part is suggested by a scientist found earlier on the lower tier, the second is given by a Mechanic during the Blue Fire task. Full password: 312220.

The door will open access to a compartment with valuable equipment. We continue to climb, shooting off the remnants of the Black Division forces. When we reach the server room, we use the 312220 code again.
We climb to the roof of the wheelhouse, cut off the hinges with a cutter and get to the bridge. After examining the room, we take the key card from the C-1 compartment from the body of the ship's commander.

Return to the server room and use the cabin access with the note to extract the C-1 drives. These modules must be removed from the premises and handed over to the Mechanic.

We inform the scientist about the death of the commander. This unlocks the branch for rescuing a civilian: to evacuate him, you will need to contact the smugglers.

We complete the cleanup, leave the Icebreaker and hand over the drives to the Mechanic.

We are contacting the Driver of the APC to arrange for the evacuation of the scientist.

He gives you a side task to collect equipment. We bring two armor plates of the 5th protection class, a body armor Cuirass and five gas masks (or respirators).

After handing over the equipment, the driver of the APC reports the code word. We return to the Icebreaker and hand it over to the researcher.

We leave the ship and head back to the Driver of the APC. He reports that the evacuation has failed, and the scientist has escaped. All that's left of him is a key card from the lab, which the driver hands over to us.
We go with the map to the laboratory at the Borey location.

We open the researcher's room and find his audio diary, which automatically completes the quest branch. In the same room you can pick up valuable medical equipment: Aceso Xpress and LedX.

We proceed to decrypt the seized drives. The mechanic asks to collect the missing equipment:

- Ultralink communication module (3 pcs.)
- Memento RAM server slats (4 pcs.)
- IBX Gigachad cryptographic processors (2 pcs.)

All of these components can be found in cabins and key card-locked compartments on the Icebreaker. Having assembled the complete set, we return to the mechanic.

He processes the data and sends the report in private messages, where it can be viewed. This completes the quest chain, and the player can reach the Cracks in the ice.
